James Keal is a researcher and engineer specialising in machine learning and computer vision. His work spans medical imaging, embedded systems and scientific computing, with a particular interest in applying these techniques to archaeology. He has contributed to research into the archaeological applications of machine learning, specifically rock art chronology, and currently develops digitisation technologies for sample collections, including a photogrammetry system for the Southeast Asian Ceramics Archaeology Laboratory, and imaging systems for partners in the resources sector. With the ARC, his current focus is on the detection of archaeological artefacts from aerial photography.
